Take a breath. Hold it in, only for a moment. Now let it go. And with it, let go of every expectation you are holding on to. We all do it; expect our life to look or be or maybe have turned out a certain way. Trust me, it shouldn't have. And when I say trust me, what I really mean is trust you. Trust your decisions, good and bad. Trust your spontaneous judgements and not so glamourous mishaps. Trust that every feeling of regret was, in actuality, a feeling of growth. Trust that every let down, every wrong corner turned or mistake made was, in actuality, needed. Trust that if life were to go exactly how you would have expected it to... it would not be yours. It would not be your life. It would not be messy. It would not be turbulent. It would not be undeniably heartbreaking. It would not be surprising. It would not be challenging. It would not be transformative. It would not be beautiful in all its imperfections. It would not be a map of every battle won. It would not be a journal of every tear shed. It would not be your life. And that would be a shame.
Take a breath. Hold it in, only for a moment. Now let it go, and with it, accept everything, exactly how it is. You may still have questions. You may still wonder why to certain things, or how to certain people. You may still be thinking what; what could you have done differently? What did you do wrong? What was the reason for this? Let it go. Let it all go. These questions are questions we have in order to reflect (for a moment) then accept. They are not questions we have in order to relive. Trust yourself enough to accept every single little thing that was, is and will ever be in your life because life is what happens when you are expecting nothing, and accepting everything.
